The founder of Hamas has called for there to be a a Day of Jihad — a global day of rage against supporters of Israel.

Khaled Mashaal called for protests across the Muslim world in support of the Palestinians — saying he wanted "blood and souls".

In China, an Israeli diplomat was stabbed in a potential terrorist attack, while in France, a teacher was killed by a knifeman shouting "Allahu Akbar."

And in the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told cops they have his full backing to throw the book at anyone glorifying terrorism — amid a 400 per cent increase in antisemitic attacks in the week before the so-called Day of Jihad.

It came as sweeping evacuation orders for almost half of Gaza's 2.3 million population were delivered.

The Israeli military also sent an order warning the hundreds of thousands of civilians of Gaza City to flee deeper south into the Gaza Strip.

Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to crush Hamas terrorists after gunmen stormed over the border and brutally executed men, women and children — the act which led the Israeli prime minister to declare his country is at war.

Netanyahu has vowed to reduce Gaza to “rubble” as he relentlessly blitzes Hamas strongholds in revenge for their bloodbath.

When did former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal call for a day of protest?

It is not entirely clear when the call for a day of protest against Israel was made, but it was first reported on October 11, two days before the date Meshaal specified as the Day of Jihad.

That makes Friday, October 13, 2023 the so-called protest day.

In a statement sent to Reuters, the Hamas founder said: "[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday.

"Tribes of Jordan, sons of Jordan, brothers and sisters of Jordan… This is a moment of truth and the borders are close to you, you all know your responsibility.

"To all scholars who teach jihad… to all who teach and learn, this is a moment for the application (of theories).”

Who is the current Hamas leader?

Hamas has a number of leadership bodies performing different functions — military, political and social.

Hamas' policy is set by a consultive body known as the politburo, which operates in exile.

Local committees oversee grassroots issues in Gaza and the West Bank.

The longtime leader and founder of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, was replaced in 2017.

The title Meshaal held was political chief, a role which has since been undertaken by Ismail Haniyeh, who is the current leader of the terrorist organisation.
