A pair of 2.5m male pythons were filmed wrestling on the deck of a Queensland home as snake breeding season begins.
Bryce Lockett from Snake Catchers Brisbane and Gold Coast was called to the home in Coalfalls, near Ipswich in west Brisbane, on Sunday night.
By that point, the two coastal carpet pythons had been battling for more than an hour.
‘We just had a python fall through this little downlight, and it turns out there was a second one,’ Mr Lockett said in the clip.
‘These two here are two combatting males.
‘As you can see, they’ve got bite marks, so these guys are quite equally matched.’

He explained the bite mark seen on one of the pythons’ necks indicated the pair were locked in a stalemate.
‘The objective of the game here is the biggest one will push the weaker one down and give up the breeding rights for the female that will be very close in the area,’ he said.
‘They don’t generally bite each other in combat unless they are quite equally matched in length.’
The job was just one of three breeding season calls Mr Lockett made on Sunday.
‘It is a very common sight this time of year. Just give them their space,’ he told Nine News.
‘They’re not interested in us. They only get one shot a year to get to the female.’
