EXCLUSIVE: Bureau of Prisons report reveals disgusting conditions inside FCI Tallahassee – where Ghislaine Maxwell is serving 20-year sentence

• A new report by the Federal Bureau of Prisons has laid bare the ‘alarming conditions’ at FCI Tallahassee, where disgraced British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell has been serving her 20-year sentence 
• Its shocking findings include poor food and storage practices such as serving moldy bread, rodent infestations, unsanitary bathrooms – where inspectors observed feminine pads being used to plug leaks 
• The report comes months after DailyMail.com revealed Maxwell had been dubbed a ‘prison Karen’ behind bars after filing more than 400 complaints about the conditions at the low security lockup 

The low-security Florida lockup where sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is serving her 20-year sentence for pimping girls for Jeffrey Epstein might not be quite so cushy after all.

Prison inspectors uncovered rotting food, rodent infestations and walls smeared with filth during an unannounced visit to FCI Tallahassee in May, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

The ceilings and windows of all five housing units were found to be in such dire need of repair that inmates had resorted to using feminine hygiene products to plug leaks.

Officials from the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) also blasted bosses for failing to stem the flow of contraband including cigarettes, vapes, opioids, and the synthetic cannabis substitutes, K2 and Spice.

Their grim findings are detailed in a scathing report that rates the beleaguered Federal facility, housing 846 women and 294 men in a small satellite facility, as ‘high risk’.

On a rare positive, the inspectors said they did not see any evidence of widespread sexual abuse in the 1930s-built prison where Maxwell, 61, has been locked up for more than a year.

The report found evidence of insects and other pests inside stored food such as cereal 

Maxwell appeared in her first televised jailhouse interview in January, speaking to TalkTV’s Jeremy Kyle to complain about her 6am starts and boring prison diet of tofu and beans

But they panned staff for using ‘insulting and derogatory terms’, misgendering trans inmates and not having enough cameras and manpower to deter violence, self-harm and drug use.

The report comes as something of a vindication for Maxwell who has filed so many grievances behind bars that fellow felons dubbed her the ‘prison Karen.’

Her numerous gripes about the poor quality of the food, threadbare bedding and the lack of timely access to medical care chime with much of the 49-page missive.

‘We observed moldy bread being served as well as discolored and rotting vegetables in a food preparation refrigerator at the female prison. In the food storage warehouses, we found likely evidence of rodent droppings, as well as bags of cereal with insects in them and warped food containers,’ the report notes.

It goes on to say: ‘We also found that female housing unit roofs routinely leak and that all five general population housing unit roofs need to be replaced. Many female inmates live in housing units in which water frequently leaks from ceilings and windows on or near their living spaces.

‘We observed housing areas in which feminine hygiene products were being used to absorb water from leaking windows, an electrical outlet that appeared to have fire damage, a sink that was detached from the wall, and a black substance on walls and ceilings. Additionally, we observed worn bedding, rusted inmate storage lockers, and unlocked supply closets.’

In the women’s bathroom, inspectors found feminine hygiene products were being used to absorb water entering a single-level housing unit through insufficiently sealed exterior windows 

Officials from the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) also blasted bosses for failing to stem the flow of contraband including cigarettes, vapes, opioids, and the synthetic cannabis substitutes, K2 and Spice (pictured) 

The inspectors noted that 38 percent of the jobs in the health unit at FCI Tallahassee were unfilled which meant staff were slow to dole out drugs such as insulin.

Bosses were also ripped for not having enough security cameras and for failing to search inmates who went outside to do landscaping work close to the sprawling jail’s perimeter fence.

‘The outer perimeter is enclosed behind a short single fence, large portions of which are easily accessible to the public from a municipal park. From such a location, individuals could easily throw contraband onto prison property for inmates to collect and bring back into the institution,’ the report notes.

‘FCI Tallahassee staff told us that these inmates are not routinely searched when they reenter the institution, affording them an opportunity to introduce contraband, including drugs and nuisance contraband such as cigarettes and vape devices, into the female prison.’

Inspectors did not find evidence of an endemic sexual abuse problem in the aging, Sunshine State lockup.

But a review of reporting data from the previous 12 months found that ‘allegations against five other FCI Tallahassee staff members were ongoing and allegations against one other staff member, who no longer works at the institution, had been sustained following investigation.’

The Federal Bureau of Prisons responded to the OIG report by taking ‘several steps to enhance operations,’ according to an accompanying memo.

‘FBOP recognizes the importance of improving its physical infrastructure, increasing staffing, and improving safety and security. FBOP has incorporated each of these issues into its new strategic framework and has previously provided OIG with information about actions that it is taking to address each area,’ it said.

The shocking report comes after DailyMail.com revealed that Maxwell has lodged 400-plus petty complaints during her stint in custody.

The sex trafficker has slated the lackluster vegan menu options, demanded jail authorities give her access to hair dye and even complained about a transgender inmate having noisy sex in the bunk above.

Maxwell also bagged plush hypoallergenic bedding after grumbling to staff that the standard-issue prison pillows were triggering her allergies.

Her moaning dates back to July 2020 when she was locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York while awaiting federal trial for grooming minors.

There, her lawyers accused prison authorities of breaching her rights by shining a torch in her cell every 15 minutes, subjecting her to invasive searches and filming her at all hours.

The daughter of disgraced UK newspaper magnate Robert Maxwell was sentenced to two decades behind bars in June last year and was due to serve her time in Connecticut’s FCI Danbury before being unexpectedly shipped 1000 miles south.

Controversy ensued when she used the prison’s video visit system to give an interview to UK broadcaster Jeremy Kyle in which she claimed, without evidence, that the now-notorious photograph of Prince Andrew with Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre was fake.

DailyMail.com revealed how the chat earned Maxwell 48 hours in the Special Housing Unit – a ‘prison within a prison’ comprising tiny, grim cells where inmates are caged for 23 hours at a time and fed through slits in the door.

Maxwell – federal prisoner 02879-509 – will be nearly 80 by the time she’s freed unless she can successfully appeal her convictions for helping ex-lover Epstein, who hanged himself behind bars in 2019 instead of facing trial.

Federal prosecutors insist that Maxwell’s convictions for grooming girls as young as 14 should stand and deny claims she was used as a proxy to satisfy public outrage over Epstein’s crimes.
