Mother-of-nine and her three sons launched vicious attack on family

Mother-of-nine and her three sons launched vicious attack on family enjoying a Christmas jumper night out after row erupted over a comment made about their daughter’s weight

A mother-of-nine and her three sons launched a violent attack on a family who were enjoying a ‘Christmas jumper night’.

Kelly Jones, 42, and her sons Corey, 26, Dominic, 23, and 21-year-old Ben, of Penrhiwtyn, Neath in Wales, got into a row with the family which ended with them attacking the family with their fists and feet.

Hannah George, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court the victims were a father and mother, their daughter and her partner on a ‘Christmas jumper night’ in December 2021.

The fight erupted at Topolis pizza restaurant in Neath, South Wales, when a comment was made about the weight of the daughter.

Corey Jones (pictured) was sentenced to 18 months, Dominic to 15 months and Ben received a nine-month suspended sentence

The court heard that it led to a row and a ‘prolonged assault’ on the victims outside the takeaway at 1.40am by the Joneses.

The prosecutor said the mother of the family later described the Joneses as acting like ‘wild animals’.

He suffered fractures to his nose and eye sockets, had a top front tooth knocked out, and suffered four loose lower teeth which subsequently had to be removed.

The man said he was very conscious of the damage to his teeth and was facing a £17,000 bill for dental work.

Kelly Jones and her sons pleaded guilty to affray. She has previous convictions for 10 offences including battery, assaulting an emergency worker, and public order matters.

Ieuan Rees, defending, said the mother-of-nine accepted she was ‘the worse for wear with drink’ on the night in question and was ‘thoroughly ashamed’ of her behaviour.

Judge Christopher Vosper KC said it was not clear how the incident in the takeaway had led to the violence.

Judge Vosper said he was not sure there was any prospect of rehabilitation in the case of Kelly Jones but he said he was concerned about the impact immediate custody would have on the young child who still lived at home with her.

Kelly Jones was sentenced to 15 months in prison suspended for two years and was ordered to complete a rehabilitation course and a 90-day alcohol monitoring requirement.

Corey Jones was sentenced to 18 months, Dominic to 15 months and Ben received a nine-month suspended sentence.
