A NAVY aircraft has landed in the waters of Kaneohe Bay after overshooting the runway.
The accident happened on Monday at 2pm at the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii.
Gunnery Sergeant Orlando Perez, a spokesperson for MCBH, told Mirror, that it had been landing when it overshot the runway and landed instead in the bay.
The base was located about 10 miles from Hawaii's capital, Honolulu.
The plane was a Boeing P8 Poseidon, which was a military surveillance and patrol aircraft, the U.S. Marine Corps spokesperson Gunnery Sgt. Orlando Perez told the Associated Press.
The plane was used to find submarines and gather intelligence.
The Boeing aircraft shares parts with 737 different commercial jets.
At the time of the accident, the aircraft was seen floating in the water with multiple passengers inside.
The Honolulu Fire Department reportedly responded to a "probable aircraft fire incident," however the possibility of a fire after the emergency landing, remains unclear.
Nine people were on board at the time, with no fatalities, sources told CBS affiliate KGMB.

Those involved in the incident reportedly swam to land and dealt with minor injuries.
By the time the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department was called to the scene, military officials confirmed that all passengers made it safely to shore.
“It sounds like all parties involved were rescued,” Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer Ryan Fisher told the publication..
