Optus users have been unable to make calls or use the internet on Wednesday morning due to a major nationwide outage.
The issue was first reported by users about 4am.
Optus is Australiaâs second-largest telecommunications provider and has millions of customers.
A statement on the Optus website said the company was aware of the issue.
âOur engineers are currently investigating a network fault that is impacting Optus Mobile & Fixed customers in this area,â the statement said.
Meanwhile, Melbourneâs entire suburban train network has gone down due to a âcommunications outageâ. It is unclear whether the issue is related.
âWe are working to rectify this issue as soon as possible. Passengers should reconsider travel on the Metropolitan network and consider alternate travel arrangements until further notice,â Melbourneâs Metro Trains said.
