Strictly’s Les Dennis hits back at front-runner Layton Williams’ ‘haters’

Strictly’s Layton Williams addresses ‘unfair’ trained dancer backlash

Strictly Come Dancing’s Les Dennis has hit out at Layton Williams’ “haters” in a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

Les, 69, was the first star to be given the boot from Strictly alongside pro partner Nancy Xu during tonight’s first results show of the series.

The pair were placed in the dance-off against presenter Nikita Kanda and her professional dance partner Gorka Márquez.

However, despite being at the bottom of the leaderboard twice, and exiting the BBC show, Les has shown his support for co-star Layton.

The West End sensation, 29, sent fans – and clearly, the judges – in overdrive in a quickstep dance to Puttin’ on the Ritz by Gregory Porter alongside his pro partner Nikita Kuzmin, 25, on Saturday.

The pair scored the highest marks so far, bagging an impressive slew of 9 from all the judges on just their second week, an event which happened only once before in Strictly’s history.

Their quickstep to the tune of ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’ proved enormously popular, with head judge Shirley Ballas among those giving the dance a standing ovation.

Shirley told the pair they’d given the “dance of the night”, while notoriously strict co-judge Craig Revel-Horwood described the performance as “incredible”.

But on Sunday afternoon, Layton took to X and shared a selfie doing the ‘peace sign’ while confirming he has been a victim of online trolling.

Beside the photo, the Bad Education star wrote: “The messages of love are overwhelming but as is the low-key trolling. I’m just here to have fun like all the other contestants. I’m trying to handle this with a smile and determination to slay another day but reminder #BeKind #Strictly.”

In response, Les also took to X to share his support for his fellow Strictly star.

He wrote: “@LaytonWilliams Don’t listen to the haters Layton. I was mesmerised by your and Nikita’s performance. You are a true star and that irritates some but exhilarates most. #believe x.”

Within minutes, TV star Lorraine Kelly also sent words of support to Layton and wrote: “You are fabulous – cheered us all up with your energy and joy. Be very proud xxxx.”
