NTA viewers distracted as dog gives ‘own speech’ as Paul O’Grady gets award

National Television Awards pay tribute to Paul O’Grady

National Television Award viewers were left distracted on Tuesday night as one dog seemed to steal the show.

It came after Davina McCall announced the late Paul O’Grady had won in the factual entertainment category for his ITV show For the Love of Dogs.

Although the late star was up against the likes of Clarkson’s Farm, Sort Your Life Out and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, he was awarded for his popular programme.

Representatives from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home accepted the award and one of them said: “I would like to thank Paul, of course, and the ITV team… for shining a light on the care that we’re able to provide for the 100 or more dogs and cats that come to Battersea every week.

“I know that Paul cared deeply for each and every one of those animals.

“I think that something about their plight and their vulnerability really struck a chord with Paul. He often referred to Battersea as his second home.”

However, as he spoke a dog from the charity appeared to want to limelight as he started to howl on stage.

With the audience bursting into laughter, a round of applause broke out for the vocal pooch.

It wasn’t long before fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the hilarious moment.
