WEATHERFIELD cabbie Peter Barlow is gearing up for an explosive exit in upcoming weeks.

Here's the lowdown on one of his biggest loves in Coronation Street. Who was Lucy Richards and what happened to her?

What happened to Lucy Barlow in Coronation Street?

Peter Barlow (portrayed by Chris Gascoyne) shook the ITV cobbles with some of his romances.

But when the cabbie met florist Lucy Richards in 2002, he had no clue he'd be a part of one of his most dramatic storylines.

The pair became instantly attracted to one another as Peter was aiming to buy a bouquet and an affair quickly began.

Unbeknownst to Peter, Lucy had hired Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) to whom she later revealed she was pregnant.

When Tracy informed Peter that her employer was pregnant, he put two and two together and realised the baby was his.

Peter tied the knot with Lucy but little did she know at the time he'd been keeping a huge secret from her.

In a shocking twist, Peter was actually romantically linked to Shelley Unwin before his illicit romance with Lucy began as the bouquet he was buying the day he'd met her was for the Rovers landlady.

Prior to his marriage with Lucy, Peter vowed things were over between him and Shelley.

When the truth came out, Lucy kicked Peter out but the divorce proceedings never went on.

Peter married Shelley in a bigamous move in July, 2003, just as Lucy gave birth to his son Simon.

By the end of the summer, both ladies were involved in a showdown during which Lucy spilled the beans to Shelley in the Rovers, showing her wedding photographs.

Lucy even tricked Peter into thinking they had a chance together but humiliated him by publicly announcing her move to Australia with their son.

Broken-hearted, Peter resigned himself to the fact he would never get to know his own son and he left Weatherfield soon after.

However, things took a tragic turn in October, 2008, when Peter called his father Ken (William Roache) from Portsmouth.

Peter revealed that Lucy had actually died from breast cancer and her dying wish was for five-year-old Simon to be with his father.

The cab driver returned to Corrie with Simon in tow.
