EastEnders exit ‘sealed’ for Jay Brown as star teases huge accident

EastEnders: Lola dies

EastEnders fans should prepare themselves next week as Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick) is overcome with grief and will be heading towards catasrophe.

Jay has suffered a tough year following the loss of his wife, Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) , to a brain tumour earlier this year.

The BBC One soap has recently seen Jay become increasingly absent from his family and turning to substance abuse.

As a result, his behaviour lands him in trouble with surrogate brother Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and his stepdaughter Lexi (Isabella Brown).

It is now confirmed that Jay’s character cannot cope anymore and will be involved in a horror accident.

Speaking to Radio Times, Jamie Borthwick lifted the lid on filming the difficult scenes.

“There is an accident at the house and after that, Jay just cannot cope anymore,” he revealed.

“He needs to get away from Walford because being around there is just causing nothing but carnage.”

Last year, Jay’s wife Lola was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, however in May her health rapidly declined.

In May, her friends and family said goodbye in the emotional scenes, as Lola died peacefully in sleep with Lexi cuddled up to her.

Speaking about coming to terms with Lola’s death, Jamie added: “He’s low, he’s hit rock bottom.

“He [Jay] doesn’t know where to turn which is why he’s resulted to taking drugs. It seems to be problem after problem for him and it’s probably the lowest he’s ever felt.”

Jay also recently formed a connection with sex worker Nadine (Jazzy Phoenix) who looks strikingly similar to Lola.

EastEnders fans will have to tune into the BBC One soap next week to find out what happens to Jay.

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.
