Strictly: Claudia and Tess open the show upon return
Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman made a blunder during last night’s launch show when she was speaking to Nigel Harman and Katya Jones after their performance.
Nigel, a former EastEnders star, was the final celebrity to take to the dancefloor of the evening for the BBC competition which is back for its 21st series.
He pulled off a seductive Pasadoble with Katya, finishing with the highest scores of the evening after landing eights from all four judges.
Following their dance, Claudia shared: “You are top of the leaderboard well done. Katya that’s your highest ever week one score.”
However, Claudia did not get her facts correct and moments later, she said: “Oh no it’s not… OK.”

She tried to brush the error under the carpet and continued with closing the show.
Coming in closely behind Nigel and Katya were Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzimn, Bobby Bazier and Dianne Buswell and Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola, who all scored 29 points.
Taking to social media following their chart-topping dance, Katya penned: “As I sat down to choreograph my next dance, I thought it’d be wrong not to take a moment and celebrate @themeditatingactor, aka Colin the Paso God!

“As I watched all of our contestants taking their first steps on the live show last night, I thought “Jeez, it must be absolutely terrifying!”
She continued: “And it is. So I applaud you partner, for what you managed to deliver on Saturday night. Enjoy the moment, as you fully deserve it!”
The Russian pro continued: “It’s only the beginning! And with the nature of this show, we’re swiftly moving on. So I’m off to choreograph our next dance…”
Nobody was voted off the show during the opening week, but the celebrities will be fighting for the Glitterball Trophy from next Saturday onwards.
Claudia and her co-host Tess Daly will be returning to the screens to present next week’s live show, with fans anticipating what outfits they will be donning.
This weekend, the pair decided to match in monochrome trousers and shirts, but their choice of attire did not sit well with fans.
Some compared Tess’ PVC pants to “bin bags” or “fishing waders”.
Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday on BBC One.
