Big Brother trans star Hallie’s mum speaks out as Farida asks if men who fancy her are gay

On Monday's Big Brother, housemate Hallie Clarke came out to her co-stars as a transgender woman, with Tuesday's episode then seeing her questioned about her transition by Farida Khalifa.

One question Farida asked was if men who dated Hallie would be considered gay, to which Hallie explained that they would not be.

And while Hallie took the questions in her stride on Tuesday's show, 10 October, the conversation caused something of a stir on social media, with one viewer writing: "Does Farida not understand Hallie is a woman, I dunno I feel this questions are a bit wild tbh"

Although others were quick to argue that Farida's questions were "well-intentioned", with one posting: "Hallie handled those questions so well and Farida seemed to have her heart in the right place and wanted to be educated."

Following Tuesday's episode, Hallie's mother Samantha appeared on Big Brother Late and Live, where she discussed her daughter's time in the house so far, including Farida's questions.

Sharing how proud of her daughter she is, she said: "She's always mature and considered in her response. She is very mature and has grown up fast.

"I had to bring her up fast to comply with the world that she's gonna be brought up in because of being trans, she's going to have different conflicts and have to deal with them differently."

And asked if Farida's questions would have upset Hallie, Samantha continued: "No not all. She knows when to stop it if a line gets crossed, but she does also know that she does have to explain as well because some people they don't know.

"And for all we know Farida's never met a trans person before, and she said when she went into the house that she wants to learn things, and also teach people about her own religion and culture.

As the show aired, viewers were quick to shower praise on Samantha with one suggesting that she should enter the house, writing: "Get Hallie's mum in the house and let her be best friends with Kerry #BBUK"

"I love Hallie's mum and how supportive she is, and I love Trish's sister [three heart emojis] #BBLL" added another.

And a third penned: "Hallie’s mum is so precious. It's so nice to see a trans person having a supportive family #BigBrotherUK #BBLL #BigBrotherUKLive"
