BBC Strictly’s Layton Williams ‘knew he was in trouble’ before dance-off

Angela Scanlon captures last dance as Strictly journey ‘cut short’

Strictly Come Dancing’s Layton Williams “showed shame” after finding himself in last weekend’s dance-off on the show according to a body language expert.

“The writing was on the wall for Layton and Nikita. You could tell Layton was gutted with how his performance went,” they said.

“When Shirley [Ballas] gave her feedback, I could see Layton blinking a lot more, and he ran his fingers over his head – which tells us he knew he was in trouble.

“He knew in his heart he hadn’t done well. It all started to unravel, as we saw lots of sadness in his facial expressions and body language with Nikita.

“We saw Layton trying to reassure himself,” said body language expert Darren Stanton speaking on behalf of Betfair Bingo.

“When Layton realised he had made it through, he was still so distraught and showed amounts of sadness.

“Layton showed he was feeling shame for not making himself and Nikita proud,” Darren continued.

“I do predict Layton will be in trouble again next week, he is slipping behind now.

“He knows that if he is to go any further, he is going to have to pull his socks up. He will need to really prove his place next week, push himself and show some determination to stay.”

On Sunday night, Layton and pro partner Nikita Kuzmin landed in the dance-off against Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu.

Although they scored a respectable 34 points on Saturday night, head judge Shirley described their footwork as “lumpy”. She told them: “It was not your best today.”

Finding themselves in the bottom two they performed their American Smooth once more to It’s Oh So Quiet by Bjork.

While judges Anton du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted to save Layton head judge Shirley revealed that she would have saved Angela.

“Well important for me always when it comes to Ballroom and Latin is the character of the dance, that it’s true to the dance, timing and quality and I would have voted for Angela and Carlos,” she said. However, because the other judges voted to save Layton, Angela and Carlos were sent home.

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One on Saturday night at 7.25pm.
