Fans of Strictly Come Dancing were left feeling rather uncertain during the latest episode as they complained that the judges' scores didn't correlate to their critiques.
Tensions were running high during Saturday night's installment (November 25) as the remaining celebs took the dance floor. Opening the show, actor Layton Williams and his dance partner Nikita Kuzmin put on a mesmerising performance as danced the American Smooth to Bjork's It’s Oh So Quiet.
But although entertaining, Layton and Nikita's routine had a number of errors which appeared to be picked up by the judges. Head judge Shirley Ballas said: "Everything about how you perform is beautiful, but for me today in American Smooth, that's exactly what the word is smooth.
"So I find this a bit more gestural and fun which is nice for an audience thing. But for me, it wasn't smooth enough."
Shirley finished off her comments by saying that "it wasn't your best today". Meanwhile, the other three judges appeared to agree with Shirley but they did add more complimentary comments.
But when it came down to the scores, they achieved favourable marks and gained 34 points altogether. But fans were left confused by the high number and headed over to X formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts.
One viewer said: "Sorry but Layton is totally overscored by the judges." Another said: "The judges were pretty fair to Layton there in their critique but their scores never seem to match up to their comments."
A third penned: "Telling Layton it’s not one of his best yet scoring 8 & 9’s – judges comments just don’t match their scoring."
But others seemed to think that Layton was being held to a ridiculously high standard. One viewer said: "Just like Layton, they hold Ellie to an absurd standard and are hypocritical in what they criticise her for compared to others. The comments and scores tonight have been NONSENSE."
