James Haskell describes his experience with ADHD
Kelly Baums was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 30 and said her “mind was blown” when she found out which one of her habits were attributed to the condition.
ADHD affects a person’s behaviour, the NHS says, with research identifying a number of possible differences in the brain of those who have ADHD compared to those who don’t.
In a video posted to TikTok, Kelly said: “Honestly my mind was blown when I found out about these after my late diagnosis.”
Kelly said people who have the condition will listen to the same song on repeat for weeks to months until they have “drawn all the emotion” of the tune.
Another habit Kelly associated with ADHD is procrastination; she elaborated: “Even though you know it will literally take you five minutes, you cannot get yourself to do it.”

Kelly emphasised: “No matter how hard you try or no matter how many times people tell you, ‘Just do it,’ you can’t.”
The American woman added: “ADHD and neurodivergence can impact your proprioception which is your awareness of the position and movement of your body.”
She said that this would make her bump into furniture around the house and in other spaces.
Kelly also said that drinking coffee would make her feel tired.

She explained: “This has to do with the fact they have a lower dopamine level.
“When you drink coffee it raises your dopamine levels and things even out and you feel a little bit more relaxed, kind of like a stimulant medication dose.”
The life coach concluded that another symptom of her ADHD is sitting in the car for a long period of time after reaching a destination.
Kelly said: “This is because they often struggle with switching tasks. It’s like you’ve got to work yourself up for it.”
The NHS classifies symptoms of ADHD as either inattentiveness or hyperactivity. Inattentiveness can lead to:
- Having a short attention span and being easily distracted
- Making careless mistakes – for example, in schoolwork
- Appearing forgetful or losing things
- Being unable to stick to tasks that are tedious or time-consuming
- Appearing to be unable to listen to or carry out instructions
- Constantly changing activity or task
- Having difficulty organising tasks.
Hyperactivity can show up as:
- Being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings
- Constantly fidgeting
- Being unable to concentrate on tasks
- Excessive physical movement
- Excessive talking
- Being unable to wait their turn
- Acting without thinking
- Interrupting conversations
- Little or no sense of danger.
