Sonos Move 2 could be the only speaker you ever need

Move 2 arrives in Black, White, or Green. The second-generation portable speaker has double the battery life, stereo sound via Bluetooth, and a more sustainable design.

Preorder now, release date scheduled for September 20, 2023

Sonos Move 2 could be the only speaker you ever need, thanks to its clever dual design.

At home, it’s designed to fit seamlessly into an existing smart sound system and stream music losslessly via Wi-Fi, but outside, this portable (and durable) Bluetooth speaker can blast music for hours and charge your other devices.

This next-generation update to the Sonos Move arrives with a jaw-dropping 24-hours of battery life, improved sound quality, and a rugged water-resistant case to survive even the most raucous parties.

Move 2 is a follow-up to the 2019 original and has been redesigned from the inside out by the prestige US brand. The overhaul has enabled Sonos to make this its most sustainable product to date – with recycled plastics used throughout the design, an improved standby mode that cuts energy usage by 40%, and a replaceable battery cell to extend its lifecycle of the product.

Like the original Sonos Move, the Move 2 is designed to work inside and outside of the house.

Inside and connected to your Wi-Fi, Sonos Move 2 works like any other speaker from the audio brand. Music, podcasts, audiobooks, and live radio stations can be streamed using the Sonos app on iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. You can also use Apple AirPlay 2 to wirelessly beam audio from your favourite apps on iPhone, iPhone or Mac. Spotify Connect is also supported out-of-the-box.

Since everything is streamed over Wi-Fi, you won’t need to worry about the directive – ping! – that always breaks up your favourite – ping! – part of a song when listening via Bluetooth.

You can stream the same song to dozens of Sonos speakers spread out across different rooms (so long as they’re all connected to the same Wi-Fi network) with playback synchronised to the second.

Or, you can listen to different tracks from each individual speaker. Everything can be managed from a single app, adjusting volume, creating different groups, and building a playlist from over 40 different audio apps, including Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, TiDAL, Audible, Pocket Casts, BBC Sounds, YouTube Music, and many more.

Pick up the Move 2 from its charging cradle and leave behind your Wi-Fi network and you’ll be able to switch to Bluetooth to keep the music playing. A pair of Sonos Move 2 speakers can be used to form a stereo sound system via Bluetooth, for pool or beach parties where you need a little more volume.

Move 2 is designed to survive outdoors. Sonos has crafted an ultra-durable design with an IP56 rating, which can withstand splashes and downpours. The case is also designed to endure rain, dirt, and sun.

With automatic Trueplay tuning, Move 2 continually optimises the sound for its surroundings, so you’ll always get the best listening experience no matter where you decide to plonk down the rugged speaker. This was also a feature in the original portable speaker, which we praised in our Sonos Move review.

Sonos has dramatically improved battery life compared to its original effort in 2019.

Move 2 boasts an impressive 24 hours of battery life – that’s double the playback between charges available with the original Move. That battery life can be used to keep the party going long into the night, or there’s a USB-C port on the back to connect gadgets to charge from the speaker like a humongous portable battery pack. Sonos Move 2 can charge phones, cameras, tablets, and more. Perfect for a weekend camping or a beach party.

“Since its 2019 launch, Move continues to be the best-selling speaker in its category thanks to its design, versatility and powerful sound,” said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos. “We strive to create sound experiences that inspire deeper connections no matter who we’re with or where we are. Move 2 advances our commitment to immersive listening by bringing stereo sound to our most popular portable, featuring the same next-gen acoustics and design we debuted with the Era family.”

Move 2 is available to preorder from Sonos now, with a global launch scheduled for September 20, 2023. It costs £449.

At the time of writing, Sonos is still selling its original Move portable speaker for £399. That might not be one of the best Sonos speaker deals we’ve ever seen, but it’s a decent discount if you’re looking for a home-cum-portable hybrid speaker from the brand. We’ve rounded up the latest Sonos Move (first-generation) prices from around the web…

Inside the home, Sonos Move fits seamlessly with your existing Sonos speakers for synchronised playback. Head outside, Sonos Move transforms into a rugged Bluetooth speaker that can withstand water and accidental drops.
