Sofia Richie, 25, HORRIFIES millennials with her ‘concealer lips’ makeup tutorial – as outraged TikTok users beg her not to revive the controversial 2000s trend
- Sofia Richie Grainge, 25, took to TikTok to show off her ‘pumpkin spice’ lip
- In the tutorial, Richie used concealer as the ‘cherry on top’ of the lip look
- Some millennials were alarmed by the look, once popular in the early 2000’s
Gen-Z’er Sofia Richie Grainge has given millennials a very unwelcome blast from the past after reviving the much-despised early 2000s ‘concealer lips’ trend in a recent makeup tutorial.
The quiet luxury it-girl shared with followers how to achieve what she described as the perfect ‘pumpkin spice’ lip in a TikTok video last week, in which she applied a tiny dab of concealer to the center of her bottom lip for an ombré effect after applying some color.
But while Richie described the addition of concealer as the ‘cherry on top’ of the look, millennial TikTok users were quick to speak out against the return of that particular makeup technique, with some going as far as to beg others to avoid it at all costs.
‘Millennials — it’s happening,’ content creator Isabel Clancy wrote in a hilarious response video to Richie yesterday, showing herself wearing a striking nude-lip filter.

Some TikTok users were horrified by the concealer lip, which was a trend in the early 2000’s, like Isabel Clancy
Clancy often makes cheeky videos referencing the cringe-y styles of the early 2000’s, which feature not only concealer lips but throwback looks like bubble tops, Bermuda shorts and unblended hair extensions.
In the comments section of Clancy’s video, many users agreed with her hysterical plea.
‘Forgive them, they know not what they do,’ one person joked.
Another agreed, typing, ‘I’d tweeze my eyebrows in preparation but they haven’t grown back since 2000…grab your iron, chuck away the hair straightener.. it’s time.’
‘She was like Mariah Carey defrosting for Christmas… we’re back baby,’ someone else wrote.
‘No.’ a user lamented. ‘We’ve done this before. We don’t need to do it again.’
In the early 2000’s, using concealer in place of actual lipstick or gloss, or using a similar color, was a huge trend, with millennials hitting the clubs and even the office with a seriously nude lip.
Celebrities like Kim Kardashian also sported the trend at the time, once revealing that the MAC Cosmetics lipstick in the light pinky-nude shade ‘Angel’ was one of her favorites.
Many millennials on TikTok could not believe that this ‘concealer lip’ trend was making its way back to the mainstream

In the early 2000’s, some celebs, like Paris Hilton, sported the ‘concealer lip’ trend, at times using the actual product or lip products that looked just like it

However, it looks like Clancy wasn’t the only one who had something to say about the ‘new’ fad.
TikTok user Aria also weighed in on the concealer lips, stitching an article about Richie’s tutorial that was titled, ‘Sofia Richie Grainge Just Brought Back Concealer Lips, and It’s Actually Very Chic.’
‘No the f— it’s not!’ she exclaimed in response. ‘We’re not doing this again. Keep scrolling, thank you.’
Popular creator Erin Miller included the same article in her satire clip, with tears streaming down her face as she sported a gray hoodie.
‘Stop this madness,’ she wrote in the caption.
Another user, Amanda Ahlers, also stitched Richie’s video, as she jokingly slathered a stick of concealer all over her her lips.
‘Mmmmm, that’s the good stuff,’ she declared playfully as she rubbed her camouflaged pout together, showing off a very early-aughts glam.
Sarah, known as @watersignsarah on the social media platform, even posted a throwback photo of her wearing the concealer look once-upon-a-time, complete with side bangs and huge smile.
She accompanied the picture with the popular 2003 song by the band Linkin Park, ‘Numb.’

TikTok users stitched an article about Richie’s look, claiming that they weren’t too keen on the trend coming back in style
Snooki, also known as Nicole Elizabeth Polizzi, sported the ‘concealer lip’ trend on a red carpet back in 2010, just as the style was fading out of trend

- She used the colors 14 and 15
- To top things off, she used a swipe of concealer in the middle of the lip
Millennials may want to watch out, though, as concealer lips aren’t the early-2000’s beauty trend that have been making a comeback as of late.
During the 2023 iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles, singer Doja Cat sported some extremely-thin eyebrows, per StyleCaster.
They were reminiscent of some early 21st century looks previously sported by celebs like Paris Hilton and Sofia’s sibling, Nicole Richie.
‘I was inspired by the cool, laid back feel of Doja’s outfit and wanted the makeup to parlay that,’ Doja’s makeup artist, Ernesto Casillas, said in a statement at the time, per the outlet.
During this year’s Paris Fashion Week, ‘Baywatch’ bombshell Pamela Anderson’s ‘no makeup-makeup’ appearance also included skinny brows.
Darker, visible lip liner has also made an appearance recently, declared by L’Officiel , which was once a popular look.
A-listers like Mariah Carey and Beyoncé have worn the lip before, and it was recently demonstrated by Hailey Bieber in a TikTok video she posted in August.
