Make prawn cocktail with just 6 flavoursome ingredients

The decadent seafood recipe is renowned for its pink hue and creamy sauce, which is made from two popular condiments.

Ketchup and mayonnaise form the base of the cocktail while the prawns take centre-stage as the main event.

While the dish can end up bland and underwhelming when made incorrectly, one flavour expert has crafted a great recipe to try this Christmas with just six ingredients.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Phil Bianchi, food and flavour expert at The Gift of Oil said: “Whether you love it or hate it, prawn cocktail is a Christmas Day classic.

“It’s really easy to make and can be done with such minimal ingredients, with the majority already being in your cupboards.”

He continued: “The simplicity of the recipe means you can really experiment with additional ingredients to change up the flavours.

“Adding infused olive oils and balsamics, such as Orange and Mandarin infused olive oil and Pomegranate and Fig infused balsamic, helps to enhance this simple home-made dish and make it restaurant quality.”

All that’s needed is a spare 20 minutes to whip up this dish that serves four people.

Method

Making the cocktail couldn’t be easier, especially when it comes to the sauce. In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, Orange & Mandarin Infused Olive Oil and Pomegranate & Fig Infused Balsamic.

Around 10ml per “part” of each is a good measure for balanced flavours when it comes to the infused oils.

Once combined, season the sauce with plenty of salt and pepper, then stir in the prawns, reserving four to garnish later on.

Divide the shredded lettuce between tall glasses, then top with the prawn cocktail mixture and garnish each one with prawns.

Finish with a light dusting of cayenne pepper, or substitute for paprika if you want to forgo the spice element.
