Inside 'world's best airport' following three-year renovation – with 45ft 'waterfall,' indoor garden & robot bartender | The Sun

AN AIRPORT which is often named the best in the world has revealed its 3.5 year renovation – with some very bizarre new additions.

Passengers trying to kill time at the airport will now be able to walk through an indoor garden and even buy drinks from a robot bartender.

Changi Airport in Singapore is often named the best airport in the world, and is known for having the largest indoor waterfall.

And the airport recently revealed it's huge renovation of Terminal 2, with another 226,000sqft added to the building.

The new designs include a 45ft digital waterfall, called The Wonderfall, created with 900 tiles and is surrounded by a vertical garden.

There is also the Dreamscape Garden, with 20,000 plants and a "digital sky" which changes colour throughout the day.

Passengers can also head to the two-storey Lotte Duty-Free Wine and Spirits store, which has a robot bartender to serve you underneath a "moon" created by LED lights.

Passengers can also head to the upper lounge Forest of Li Bai with 18 types of whiskey, or dine at the Gourmet Garden with classic Singapore dishes.

Lye Teck, the airport's program director for the Terminal 2, said: "With T2, we sought to enhance the passenger experience, bringing together a modern terminal inspired by nature, with immersive digital experiences, innovative technology, as well as transformative retail and dining concepts that create a sense of place."

Airlines currently operating from the terminal include Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa.

Changi Airport currently welcomes 90million passenger per year, with the new renovation expected to bring another 5million.

It was named the best airport in the world by SkyTrax for eight years in a row – although lost out in 2021 and 2022 during the pandemic.

It has since been named the best again in the 2023 Skytrax Awards.

The airport is home to some of the best amenities for passengers, including a huge cinema and sports arena, which were added in 1998.

And it built the first transit-side swimming pool in the world in 1995.

The airport opened their new Terminal 4 in 2017, which included new facial scanning systems and drone play areas.

This was followed by the huge 135,700sqm lifestyle hub Jewel at Singapore Changi Airport in 2019.

Connecting all the terminals, inside are hundreds of shops, restaurants, and a forest.

And it is home to the world's tallest indoor waterfall, with the 131ft Rain Vortex.

A huge slide, hedge maze, butterfly garden home to over 1,000 tropical butterflies and forest walkway are also found at the airport.

If you can't quite go as far as Singapore, a huge £7billion airport could soon open in Europe, with hopes to start flights from 2028.

Warsaw Solidarity Airport, also known as Central Communication Port, hopes to start construction by the end of the year, and could rival Heathrow and Dubai for long haul flights.
