Inside Robbie Williams and Ayda Field’s wedding including her ban on planning ceremony

Robbie Williams' wife Ayda Field has revealed that she was "banned" from talking about their wedding plans for months after he popped the question.

The actress, 44, said it took three years for the Rock DJ star, 49 to propose and then another six months before he would finally discuss their wedding plans. Ayda admitted her "heart sank" not being able to talk about their big day and said she even considered giving the ring back altogether.

While appearing on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, Ayda revealed: "We were together three years before he proposed and I think in his head that's how long it took him to even come round to that concept. There were three break-ups before that. But he got there.

"We got engaged and I wasn't allowed to mention the word wedding. Two weeks later, my girlfriend gave me wedding magazines and I brought them into the house and he was like 'What's that? Who said anything about a wedding?' My heart sank. I started in my head to think 'Is this a ring, this is not ok, I'll give it back'.

She continued: "Five or six months later he took me on a boat for my birthday as a surprise and he gave me a watch. On the watch, it said 'Set a date shipmate'. I thought you had to set the date. And then he was like 'No, you know what that means, let's set a date to get married'."

The next available date for their lavish soiree was in just six weeks time, so the couple set about planning their big day and in secret. So much so that their guests believed they were attending a James Bond-themed party and were only aware moments before the ceremony began that is was their wedding.

Due to the nature of dating a superstar, the newlyweds were unable to enjoy a lengthy honeymoon as Robbie had to work the day after their nuptials. Working around his hectic schedule, the couple celebrated their 12-year wedding anniversary in August and have been together since 2006.

They are doting parents to Theodora, nine, Charlton, seven, Coco, three, and two-year-old Beau. Ayda also revealed on the podcast the warning signs that popped up in her head when she first met Robbie.

Speaking on the podcast she confessed that there were "so many red flags" and remembered looking at him and thinking "Oh f**k, I think I'm going to fall in love with this boy". She went on to say it was "something out of a cartoon, red flags were dancing above his head."

She also confessed she knew nothing about the star before they met as they were set up by mutual friends. But soon felt like she had "known him" her "whole life" and he "totally understood" her.
