Genesis Unveils the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept Car

During the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Genesis unveiled one of its most unique concept cars yet, the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo.

The concept comes to life both as a physical model and as a digital example crafted as part of the Vision Gran Turismo series or program, a part of the Gran Turismo game franchise that challenges the world’s top automotive manufacturers to create their rendition of an ideal GT vehicle.

Genesis describes the vehicle as a manifestation of its “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, capturing the essence of emotion in automotive design. Notably, the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept boasts a pure, muscular appearance with a focus on its wheel-centric volumes. Its unique design features a “cab backwards” proportion, integrating Genesis’ anti-wedge attitude and a virtual parabolic tension theory evident in Genesis models. The design optimizes the dash-to-axle ratio, enhancing the mid-engine layout by shifting the driver and powertrain towards the rear.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” shared John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer, adding “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

Other design elements include a Crest Grille with the Quad Lights, forming a lightweight, aerodynamic structure. The design flows from the front to the rear, highlighted by the Two Lines that act as brand identifiers, complemented by an elliptical concave volume at the rear of the car, a hallmark of Genesis vehicles, accented by a rear spoiler and lateral trailing edges for enhanced high-speed stability.

Inside the cabin, Genesis’ “Beauty of White Space” philosophy, offers a minimalist yet functional environment. The digital panoramic interface, linked to a surround monitoring system, is designed to ensure unobstructed views, while the steer-by-wire grip commands facilitate precise control.

Under the hood, the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept is powered by a Lambda 11 V6 engine, supported by Genesis E-SC technology. This hybrid race-spec drivetrain produces a staggering 1071hp and 986 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine alone delivers 870hp and 790 lb-ft of torque, complemented by an additional 201hp and 196 lb-ft from the Yasa E motor.

Starting January 2024, fans will be able to race the concept car inside of the Gran Turismo 7 game. Players who have been watching the Manufacturer’s Cup broadcast via GT7 since December 2 will gain early access to the vehicle, with it being provided as a gift in the January update.
