Elon Musk has left his mark on cars, outer space, social media and now, he’s moving on to AI. The X CEO revealed plans for his AI company, xAI, in July with court documents registering the corporation.
In a post to X, he officially announced the company, describing it as AI that “understands reality.” In interviews at the time, he billed it as a startup that “tries to understand the nature of the universe,” though never elaborated on what exactly kind of AI models he’s creating.
Months later, Musk has returned to X to write that xAI will be launching on Saturday, November 4, to a “select group,” presumably, beta testers.
“In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists,” Musk wrote.
Still, no one knows what kind of system xAI will be peddling. It’s possible Musk is working on his own chatbot to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
