Cliff Richard’s hat-trick in Christmas top 10 annoying tracks of all time

Cliff Richard has three songs among the top 10 fearful festive tunes.

In a poll, 1,500 Brits were asked to name their most annoying Christmas tracks.

Despite Ladbaby’s 2018 No1 – We Built This City… On Sausage Rolls – landing top spot, Sir Cliff’s music came 2nd, 3rd and 4th, landing the 83-year-old an “unwanted hat-trick”.

The star, born Harry Webb in 1940, has sold more than 250million records worldwide and had four festive No1s.

His 1988 smash Mistletoe and Wine was fourth on the Crimbo cringe list, with 1990’s Saviour’s Day in third.

But his Millennium Prayer from 1999 was the second-worst.

Alison Taylor, 54, of Watford, Herts, said she used to love Sir Cliff, adding: “He’s been around forever, but I prefer his 60s and 70s stuff, not his Christmas songs.

“They are all a bit too preachy for me and make me cringe whenever I hear them.”

A spokesman for Ladbrokes Live, which ran the study, said only Ladbaby was “keeping him from getting the top three Christmas turkeys”.

Nicola McGeady, of Ladbrokes Live, said: “There is no doubt Sir Cliff Richard is a household favourite, but his festive offerings from 1988, 1990 and 1999 have been voted as among the the most annoying Christmas songs ever.”
