Somehow Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s daughter Luna is already reading chapter books (or at least listening to her mom read them), and we just want to know how in the world that happened. Wasn’t she an infant like … yesterday? Teigen posted a video on her Instagram story of her 7-year-old making a numbered list on a piece of paper. In it, the Cravings author is holding a copy of Encyclopedia Brown, and all we can say is, “Wow!” Now that’s a blast from the past.
“OK Detective Luna, are you ready?” Teigen asked her oldest kiddo.
“Yes,” the little girl said, confidently adding numbers to her list, getting ready to write down all the clues.
“Alright, Encyclopedia,” Teigen said. “We’re going to figure this one out together.”
How freakin’ cute is that? Luna is cozy in her bed, wearing adorable pajamas with a banana print, and we cannot get over how sweet an activity this is. Teigen’s heart must be bursting over this bonding moment, and we hope she will get to do this with her other kids — Miles, 5, Esti, 7 months, and Wren, 3 months — one day.
In case you missed out on the Encyclopedia Brown craze, the 29-book series — which was published from 1963 to 2012 — follows Detective Leroy “Encyclopedia” Brown. The young boy helps solve multiple mysteries per book using his encyclopedic knowledge.
Teigen and Luna were reading the fifth book, Encyclopedia Brown Solves Them All, and it’s hard to say if this was their first go at helping Encyclopedia crack the case. Each book is self-contained, so there’s no definitive need to read the first four books before starting on number five.
The series has thousands of glowing reviews on GoodReads, and we’re not at all surprised.
“I continue to be fascinated by this series. I recommended the first four books to my students and I’ve loved seeing how excited they are by the opportunity to try to solve Encyclopedia’s mysteries along with him.”
“[My son] mentioned that he really likes the stories, as they keep him thinking, but not in a school way. I had these stories read to me when I was young as well, helping me want to pass along the tradition. [He] thoroughly enjoys listening to the stories and making an effort to uncover the clues that will help solve the cases.”
“Over 30 years later, I still love the series and I’m enjoying reading them to my kids.”
