It seems that “Blue Beetle” has come full circle. The superhero movie was originally slated as an HBO Max (now simply known as Max) streaming release, but then moved to a theatrical run during development. And while it was a box office disappointment — despite getting the top spot during its opening weekend in early August — “Blue Beetle” might find more of an audience when it’s released on digital on September 26.
It’s available to stream as a digital purchase in 4K Ultra HD for $24.99 on Prime Video. If you aren’t a Prime member, you can sign up for a free trial here.

The Ángel Manuel Soto-directed movie tells the story of Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a recent-college graduate who returns home to the fictional Palmera City in Florida. He later comes to the realization that higher education doesn’t guarantee success in life.
However, with the support of his extended family, Reyes interviews for a job opportunity at Kord Industries after a chance encounter with Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of the company’s former CEO, Ted Kord.
But when Jenny gives him a box for safekeeping, Reyes discovers a mysterious Scarab inside. His life is then turned upside down when the artifact merges with his mind and body to become the superhero known as Blue Beetle.
The cast also features the who’s who of Latino performers, including Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén and George Lopez — along with Susan Sarandon.
Meanwhile, despite Blue Beetle’s disappointing box office intake of $122.9 million worldwide, the superhero movie scored big with general audiences and film critics, alike. “‘Blue Beetle‘ is like a dark ’80s fantasia with a shaggy-haired boy-band hero in the middle of it,” penned Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman in his review. And hopefully, the movie can explain the new DC Universe.
Available at Prime Video, you can “Blue Beetle” stream in 4K Ultra HD for $24.99 as a digital purchase.
