Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Georgia Harrison and Lionesses win Glamour Women of the Year awards

Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Georgia Harrison and the Lionesses were among the winners at the Glamour Women of the Year awards 2023.

The ceremony that celebrates 'game changers and feminist heroes' was held on Tuesday, 17 October in London, with Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan as the host.

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne was awarded the musician gong. The 32 year old rose to fame after winning The X Factor as part of girl band Little Mix in 2011 – alongside Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson – and spent a decade in the group before they went on hiatus.

In 2021, she presented BBC Three documentary Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop & Power which explored her experience as the only black member of Little Mix and discrimination within the music industry.

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK recently about dealing with racism in the music industry, she said: “As the time went on, the feeling wasn’t right, and I’d be thinking, ‘Was that racist?’

“Just little things I was questioning, but also feeling quite alone with it… I just pushed it down and down and down. I think that’s why I’m still trying to heal from it." She released her first solo single, Don't Say Love, in June after Little Mix announced a break from music.

Reality TV star Georgia, known for her appearance in the ITV documentary Revenge Porn: Georgia Vs Bear, won the activist award. She has been raising awareness about violence against women and girls (VAWG) and advocating for a VAWG code of practice to be added to the Online Safety Bill.

The England women's national football team, the Lionesses, took home the sports icons award after their near-win against Spain at the Women's World Cup final in Sydney in August.

And The Fear singer Lily Allen, who starred in The Pillowman at London's Duke of York's Theatre this year, bagged the theatre actor award.

Eurovision Song Contest 2023 co-host and Ted Lasso star, Hannah Waddingham, bagged the entertainer award at the ceremony. The 49 year old also stars in Netflix's hit series Sex Education and hosted the Olivier Awards earlier this year.

Olivia Dean, who released her debut album Messy in June, was recognised as Samsung's rising star. Other winners included American actress Ariana DeBose, comedian Fats Timbo, Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown and America Ferrera.
