Marvel movie star Ross Marquand revealed he has been treated for cancer, saying: “Nothing in this life is certain.”

The 42 year old actor, who played Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, told how he had to have a cancerous growth removed from his nose. Ross, also known for his role of Aaron in The Walking Dead TV series, opened up on social media about how he’d had a four-year problem, but did not have it checked out so it had ‘festered’ and grown into cancer.

The star, who also voiced the Ultron Sentries in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, said that, while he was normally a private person, he had decided to speak out about his cancer diagnosis in a bid to encourage others to prioritise their health and get checked out if they think they might have a problem. He wrote on Instagram how his condition could have been ‘much, much worse’ if he had waited any longer to get it looked at.

Alongside a picture of his bandaged-up nose, he wrote: “Well folks, I finally decided to listen – to family, friends, and fans. Countless people told me to get my nose checked over the past four years and I always said I was too busy and couldn't possibly find the time…which was partially true.

“My schedule has been absolutely bonkers for longer than I can remember. But guess what? I let this problem fester and it grew into a cancer.

“I'm told this was one of the "better" cancers to get, but left unchecked it could've become much, much worse.”

Speaking about his motivation for posting, he added: “I hesitate to share this because I'm usually a very private person but I'm posting this to encourage all of you to prioritize your health – be that physical, mental, or emotional. I clearly did not, and now I'm playing catch up.

“Hopefully I'll have many more days to learn and grow – to be healthier, to be better…but nothing in this life is certain. Get yourself sorted and please don't wait like I did.”

Friends, colleagues and fans responded to the post with their messages of love and support.

The Walking Dead producer Denise Huth said: “‘I’m so glad you got it checked. I had a melanoma on my leg this year, it’s all fine now but yeah, do your skin checks people! Love you Ross, hope it’s better soon!’

Chandler Riggs, who played Carl Grimes in the zombie series, added: “Dude, glad you’re okay and got it sorted out. Hell of a close call. Feel better soon!”

Actress Rosario Dawson, who rose to fame in 1995 film Kids and has also starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wrote: “So glad that you’re okay and caught it in time. Thank you for taking care of you and encouraging us to check in and do the same. Blessings to you love.”
