This Morning hosts Andi Peters and Mollie King comforted a TV viewer who called into the ITV daytime show on Wednesday, 13 December as they discussed loneliness at Christmas.

Andi, 53, and Mollie, 36, teamed up to present the show on Wednesday, with the pair hosting a segment which saw viewers call in to speak about the festive period and how they cope with feeling anxious.

One caller, named Debbie, phoned in to discuss how she feels most lonely at Christmas time. She explained that both of her sons will be spending Christmas Day at their in-laws' homes, and expressed her "sadness" as she said she would be left alone for the day.

Explaining her situation to Andi and Mollie, Debbie said: "I am feeling really lonely and anxious this Christmas. I have got two sons and a family but the are all spending it with the in-laws and I am on my own. I just feel this real sadness, there is all this happiness going on but I just don’t feel it.

"They are grown up but they want to spend it with the in-laws and this is the third year running now. It’s what I have to get used to every year. I am allowed to go for breakfast for an hour in the morning and that is it. That is all that I am allowed."

Mollie was visibly moved by Debbie's call, as were viewers at home who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their shock at Debbie's sons' decisions.

“Her sons are beyond selfish. Unbelievable," one viewer said. A second added: “WTF? Two sons and not one of them has thought, ‘Hang on, Mum will be on her own at Christmas.’?"

A third commented: “Debbie if you were my mum you would not be alone.”

Mollie made her This Morning debut on Tuesday, 12 December alongside regular guest presenter Dermot O'Leary, as ITV continue to introduce new faces to the daytime show following Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's exits.

However, some This Morning fans were taken aback by Mollie's appearance on the show, with many even mistaking her for Holly due to their similar hairstyles and outfits.

One fan wrote on X/Twitter: “Just got home from work, turned on #ThisMorning and had a do a double take because I thought Holly was back.” Another added: “Congratulations on This Morning #ITV for finding Holly’s doppelgänger.”

A third said: “Molly king looks a bit too much like Holly today.” A fourth viewer joked: “Wonder if Holly is going to phone up and thank Mollie for being a great stunt double.”
