A GHANAIAN politician who mocked Harry Maguire has offered a bizarre apology to the \u201ctransformed\u201d Manchester United star.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Isaac Adongo went viral a year ago after using Maguire\u2019s career as an analogy to attack political opponents during a debate about the economy.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

At the time, Maguire was struggling to command a place in Erik ten Hag\u2019s United side.<\/p>\n

Mr Adongo said: "If you're a fan of football … there was a player in England called [Harry] Maguire who was playing for Manchester United. He's a defender.<\/p>\n

"[At Leicester] he was tackling everybody and throwing his body everywhere. He was seen as the best defender in the world.<\/p>\n

"Manchester United went and bought him. He became the biggest threat at the centre of Manchester United's defence, tackling [his own] players and giving assists to opponents.<\/p>\n

But things have panned out differently for Maguire this term, having regained his place and become an important presence in United\u2019s defence.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s already clocked up seven league appearances \u2014 just nine less than he made all of last season.<\/p>\n

And Mr Adongo has also now made an incredible U-turn, admitting he was wrong to call out Maguire.<\/p>\n

Offering an apology, he claimed the England man has become a \u201ctransformational footballer.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the MP refused to let up the pressure on his political adversaries.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI apologise to Harry Maguire. Today he\u2019s turned the corner and is a transformational footballer.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaguire is now scoring goals for Manchester United.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is now a key player for Manchester United.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as for our Maguire (Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia), he is now at the IMF with a cup in hand!\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans certainly reacted in hysterics to Mr Adongo\u2019s apology.<\/p>\n

One said: \u201cApology accepted Minister!\u201d<\/p>\n

Another declared: \u201cWe\u2019re back Maguire nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

One noted: \u201cMy country Ghana, Maguire we are sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cThis is some comeback man, so happy for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
