<\/p>\nSHOPPERS have been left devastated after learning a popular bargain chain will be closing another branch for good in the run up to Christmas.<\/p>\n
Poundstretcher is closing a store in Ammanford, South Wales although the date is yet to be confirmed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n<\/p>\n
Shoppers have expressed deep concern over the closure stating that they fear the area will become a \u201cghost town\u201d.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the store survived just two years after opening in February 2021.<\/p>\n
Shoppers spotted signs on the shop windows announcing a closing-down sale where customers could get 20% off everything in-store.<\/p>\n
Staff at Poundstretcher announced the closure and the closing down sale on their Facebook page.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The store said: \u201cEvening everyone. Poundstretcher Ammanford now has a closing down Sale.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have 20% off EVERYTHING so call in and make sure you do because once it\u2019s gone it\u2019s gone!\u201d<\/p>\n
The post racked up over 18 likes and though comments have been limited it has been shared over 106t times by concerned residents.<\/p>\n
One user said: \u201cGreat even more places closing down. More jobless. The economy is f**ked.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Another said: \u201cI had a feeling it would.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGhost town before long,\u201d claimed a third.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many shoppers were speculating as to what retailer may be best placed to take over the former Poundstretcher store.\u00a0<\/p>\n One user said: \u201cHopefully they change it to a Primark.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think it would be good as a Harvester,\u201d said someone else.<\/p>\n A third user said: \u201cA good space for a TK Maxx there.\u201d<\/p>\n Adam Price MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, told local media he too was concerned about the news.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said: \u201cI was deeply concerned to learn that the Poundstretcher store in Ammanford will be closing. I understand that there are many pressures affecting businesses at the moment, but this will come as a major blow to staff.<\/p>\n \u201cRedundancies such as this are never good news, but to come just before the Christmas period will be particularly difficult for staff. I hope that there is an alternative found soon so that staff can be sure of their future.\u201d<\/p>\n The news follows a string of other store closures already announced by the high street retailer.<\/p>\n The\u00a0discount\u00a0retailer confirmed it is closing down two of its high street locations, Watford Road, Cotteridge and the Wealdstone branch in Harrow.<\/p>\n Another five Poundstretcher stores were closed earlier this year but in February the retailer revealed\u00a0plans to open 50 new stores by the of the year.<\/p>\n It has been a tough time for high street retailers.<\/p>\n More shoppers than ever are ordering online and energy costs have risen which has left some retailers grappling with budgets.\u00a0<\/p>\n It has led to several high street retailers closing stores as they try to cut costs.<\/p>\n Some have gone bust completely too, including Paperchase, Wilko, Cath Kidston and M&Co.<\/p>\n Boots revealed it would be closing 300 stores over the next year as part of plans to\u00a0evolve its brand.\u00a0<\/p>\n B&M has closed nine of its stores\u00a0since February this year.<\/p>\n Clintons\u00a0brought in advisers in August\u00a0to put a plan in place to save it from insolvency.<\/p>\n The\u00a0card retailer plans to close 38 of its 225 stores\u00a0to try to stay afloat.<\/p>\n Even Tesco announced it will be closing a store this week.<\/p>\n The Mount Plesant\u00a0Tesco\u00a0Express in\u00a0Liverpool\u00a0will be permanently closing on November 15.\u00a0<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/newspress-collage-24668327-1699440351727.jpg\")
