Lorraine Kelly recalls reporting on Lockerbie bombing

Lorraine Kelly opened up on her recent trip to Scotland, Lockerbie, to recall her reporting on the 1988 terror attack.

Back in December 21 1988, a Boeing 747 left 270 people dead, making it the deadliest terrorist incident to have taken place on British soil.

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid asked: “It is an important anniversary to mark because I think people have perhaps let it slip from their memory.

“We saw your report there but what we don’t see Lorraine is what else you saw…” to which Lorraine explained: “What else we saw counts as well.

“It was really important for me to go back because I do think people have forgotten it was the worst terrorist atrocity in Europe never mind in the UK.

“I think people forgot what happened in Lockerbie and I just wanted to go back and, as a community find a little bit of light which we did, but it was surreal, it was like a warzone.”

Detailing what it was like to turn up at the wreckage, Lorraine admitted all she saw was metal over the main road, with their vehicle having punctures.

She admitted: “Very quickly we realised this was huge, this was enormous. And then driving past, it it weird because you know your mind plays tricks on you.

“I remember it took us ages to get there, it was like we trudged through fields but it was very close to the road and there was nobody else there, there was just us.
