The Duchess of Edinburgh cut a sombre figure as she attended a\u00a0Service of Remembrance during her solo trip to Canada.<\/p>\n
Sophie, 58,\u00a0wrapped up warm in a navy coat,\u00a0which was adorned with a poppy, and a matching hat when stepping out at\u00a0St Catherine\u2019s Cenotaph, accompanied by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.<\/p>\n
After the service, the mother-of-two, who is married to Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest son Prince Edward, will attend a reception to meet soldiers of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and their families.<\/p>\n
Looking perfectly poised, Sophie donned a navy clutch bag, silver hoop earrings and a brooch, while teaming her sophisticated ensemble with autumnal boots.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sophie is visiting Canada for five days, until Wednesday, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, and Patron of Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals, University Health Network (UHN).<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Duchess\u00a0visited barracks in military uniform as part of her five-day solo trip to Canada.<\/p>\n
Sophie was all smiles as she greeted army personnel at\u00a0Lake Street Armoury Military barracks in St. Catharines.<\/p>\n
The mother-of-two was at the base as she attended The Duchess of Edinburgh competition, which was hosted by the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.<\/p>\n
The venue and challenges change each year and\u00a0sees Sophie’s military affiliations come together to compete in a series of challenges.<\/p>\n
This competition aims to test physical and mental strength through tough tasks but those who are victorious receive a trophy – called The Countess of Wessex\u00a0Cup – presented by the Duchess herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The royal was dressed in a camouflage jacket for the occasion, which had the Canadian flag on the sleeve.<\/p>\n
The garment was even personalised with her title on the right pocket which read: ‘The Duchess of Edinburgh’ in white text.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With Armistice Day coming up on the 11 November, Sophie honoured those that fought during the World Wars by pinning a poppy to her uniform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She opted for a practical look as she wore her blonde tresses pinned back from her face. The royal wore her signature pink glitzy eyeshadow – which matched her painted nails – and bold mascara.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However by the evening, the Duchess selected a rather different attire. She\u00a0changed out of her uniform and opted for an elegant evening frock instead.<\/p>\n
The royal attended a dinner in support of the Lincoln & Welland Regimental Foundation. Guests were treated to a special performance by the Lincoln & Welland Association Band.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She was snapped beaming alongside the Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.<\/p>\n

For her final few days in Canada, Sophie will spend three days visiting three sites at UHN: Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto Rehab. Pictured, the service taking place<\/p>\n
Sophie donned a sparkly mesh-sleeved maxi-dress, which she paired with a belt to show off her frame.<\/p>\n
She matched the graceful look with a silver clutch bag, some grey open-toe heels and a poppy pin badge.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
For her final few days in Canada, Sophie will spend three days visiting three sites at UHN: Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto Rehab.<\/p>\n
During her visits, she will meet those who are working on the frontline of these organisations – such as\u00a0healthcare workers, researchers, hospital supporters, volunteers, staff and also visit patients.<\/p>\n
The royal will hear more about the latest advancements in arthritis, vision and brain research, social and emergency medicine as well as innovations in cardiovascular care and the latest technologies in physical rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
