Duchess of Edinburgh enjoys wine tasting as she begins five-day trip to Canada &#8211; without husband Prince Edward<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Duchess of Edinburgh cut a sombre figure as she attended a\u00a0Service of Remembrance during her solo trip to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Sophie, 58,\u00a0wrapped up warm in a navy coat,\u00a0which was adorned with a poppy, and a matching hat when stepping out at\u00a0St Catherine\u2019s Cenotaph, accompanied by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>After the service, the mother-of-two, who is married to Queen Elizabeth II&#8217;s youngest son Prince Edward, will attend a reception to meet soldiers of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Looking perfectly poised, Sophie donned a navy clutch bag, silver hoop earrings and a brooch, while teaming her sophisticated ensemble with autumnal boots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sophie is visiting Canada for five days, until Wednesday, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, and Patron of Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals, University Health Network (UHN).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/05\/16\/77426955-12712815-image-m-54_1699201984854.jpg\" height=\"957\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Duchess of Edinburgh cut a sombre figure as she attended a Service of Remembrance during her solo trip to Canada<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the Duchess\u00a0visited barracks in military uniform as part of her five-day solo trip to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Sophie was all smiles as she greeted army personnel at\u00a0Lake Street Armoury Military barracks in St. Catharines.<\/p>\n<p>The mother-of-two was at the base as she attended The Duchess of Edinburgh competition, which was hosted by the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.<\/p>\n<p>The venue and challenges change each year and\u00a0sees Sophie&#8217;s military affiliations come together to compete in a series of challenges.<\/p>\n<p>This competition aims to test physical and mental strength through tough tasks but those who are victorious receive a trophy &#8211; called The Countess of Wessex\u00a0Cup &#8211; presented by the Duchess herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The royal was dressed in a camouflage jacket for the occasion, which had the Canadian flag on the sleeve.<\/p>\n<p>The garment was even personalised with her title on the right pocket which read: &#8216;The Duchess of Edinburgh&#8217; The royal wore her signature pink glitzy eyeshadow &#8211; which matched her painted nails &#8211; and bold mascara.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However by the evening, the Duchess selected a rather different attire. She\u00a0changed out of her uniform and opted for an elegant evening frock instead.<\/p>\n<p>The royal attended a dinner in support of the Lincoln &amp; Welland Regimental Foundation.
