{"id":239884,"date":"2023-10-30T22:16:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T22:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lovemainstream.com\/?p=239884"},"modified":"2023-10-30T22:16:09","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T22:16:09","slug":"university-challenge-outrage-as-fans-call-out-generous-answer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lovemainstream.com\/tv-and-movies\/university-challenge-outrage-as-fans-call-out-generous-answer\/","title":{"rendered":"University Challenge outrage as fans call out \u2018generous answer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>University Challenge host allows Edinburgh Fringe Festival answer<\/h3>\n<p>University Challenge fans have been left furious at host Amol Rajan for allowing one team to get a point for their answer.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday night\u2019s instalment of the BBC quiz show, viewers saw the universities Oxford Brookes and Open go head to head in a first-round match.<\/p>\n<p>As both teams of four were pitted against one another, they had to try and get as many questions right as possible in a bid to reach the second stage of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>During the episode, host Amol asked: \u201cIn 1947, performances by eight theatre troops, who arrived uninvited to an invitation-only international festival, saw the start of which performing arts festival that takes part every August?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hitting the buzzer first was Manton from Oxford Brookes University who believed he knew the correct answer.<\/p>\n<p> <strong> READ MORE <\/strong> <strong>The One Show viewers distracted as they slam Will.i.am&#8217;s &#8216;ridiculous&#8217; outfit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/20\/590x\/secondary\/UNIVERSITY-CHALLENGE-BACKLASH-5040772.jpg?r=1698701898001\"><\/p>\n<p>Hoping his answer was correct, he replied: \u201cEdinburgh Festival?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allowing his answer, Amol replied: \u201cYes, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, I can accept that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, it appeared that not all viewers were pleased with the point being awarded as it wasn\u2019t long before fans took to Twitter to air their thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>@elab49 questioned: \u201cIs the Fringe the Edinburgh Festival? A generous giveaway on the Edinburgh Fringe answer there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>@PaulOli42003393 simply asked his social media followers: \u201cReally?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>@blacktartanlass commented: \u201cEdinburgh Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe are two entirely different entities, that starter shouldn&#8217;t have been allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>@hattiepeverel tweeted: \u201cAre the Edinburgh Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe one and the same thing?
