Ryan Thomas still feels sorry for Roxanne Pallett, after she fraudulently accused him of assaulting her in the Celebrity Big Brother house five years ago.

In the latest episode of his family podcast Mancs on the Mic, co-hosted with brothers Adam Thomas, who is currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing, and Scott Thomas, the 39 year old soap star looked back on that devastating experience.

"I wanted to be the first in and the first out, I was so nervous going into that show because it's the first time I'm showing me for me and I knew that the cameras were on me 24/7, that's quite a daunting thing to go through," Ryan said of the 2018 reality series.

Having playfully tapped Roxanne, 40, in the stomach one day, Ryan felt like the rest of his housemates completely disregarded him for a while. This unfolded because the former Emmerdale actress complained that he'd made her feel uncomfortable.

Distraught over this turn of events, it wasn't until the next eviction night that Ryan finally realised the outside world was in his corner, and she'd manipulated the house.

"The night of [Scott] sending me that message which was emotional enough as it was… they then did the eviction and I got to hear the words, 'get Roxanne out!' and I just released because I knew it wasn't about me, I knew it was about her," he shared.

"But when you're in there, it's one of the most lonely places that you can ever go to because you don't know these people from Day One; you're building a relationship with people that you've never really met before, you’re in an environment where you're being put out your comfort zone on all levels.

"It's so weird I get emotional about it now because it's over."

Ryan, who is engaged to The Only Way is Essex's Lucy Mecklenburgh, went on to claim you "can't hide from who you really are in a show" like Big Brother and that it "can be quite a lonely and scary place" when you're put in that environment, so he feels a certain level of sympathy for Roxanne, who "found peace" from the backlash a year after it all went down.

Meanwhile, when he'd won the 2018 series, Ryan spoke exclusively to OK! about his experience and managed to steer conversation very much away from the controversy.

"No matter what went on in there, I have no regrets about doing the show," he commented. "It was scary to show people the real Ryan Thomas, but I’m grateful people liked what they saw. Every time I go out I get people stopping me to say hello and wanting to give me a hug.

"After my time on Coronation Street, I didn’t think the level of attention could get any bigger, but it’s grown since CBB. People don’t call me Jason Grimshaw any more, they call me Ryan."
