Married At First Sight star Shona Manderson has opened up about her experience on the show after her pairing became the centre of controversy.

The TV star was with Brad Skelly but some viewers accused him of being controlling towards her. The pair later exited Channel 4’s social experiment because it was felt their relationship was potentially “unhealthy”.

After some time to reflect on her MAFS journey, Shona has posted a series of long messages on Instagram telling her followers that watching the programme back made for some “uncomfortable” viewing. However, she also said she had learned a lot from the experience and that it had a “very, very happy ending”.

“It’s difficult to see what everyone else could see and what you are watching play out now,” the reality star told her fans. “It’s uncomfortable to see this from the outside perspective and feeling what arises up for me in witnessing what everyone else could see and now you’re watching it play out just as we watch it for the first time.

“I could honestly write so much as there are so many factors involved with what goes down within our pairing, a lot of things which happen off camera and things that aren’t aired… the good and the ugly. Most importantly I need to remember how far I’ve come since then."

She went on: “I’ve truly learnt so much on this journey, it’s been a huge lesson for me and it actually has been a very, very happy ending. You grow through what you go through and never again will I put up with this behaviour.”

Shona said there were also “many major highs” in her time with Brad, which didn’t make the final cut. But she said some of his behaviour had been “inexcusable” .

“In moments like these I wasn’t honest about it and tried to see the good,” she said. “I’m not sharing this to add fuel to the fire but this is my story, parts of it are out there for everyone to see and I want to share what I choose to share on here both sensitively and respectfully.”

She continued: “My lesson is I put my hope for the relationship to work and how Bradley was going to appear to others before me. Now I’m so far removed from the process I can walk away with is the awareness that in protecting someone else for their behaviour, their poor actions and words that are having such an impact on you – you start to lose your light and your sparkle and it’s something I won’t lose again. I now feel empowered about that and I can only hope people will learn from watching our time in the experiment unfold.”

Brad previously said in a video to fans that viewers only seeing snippets of what was happening and that he was not a controlling person. He explained that if you were with someone and not clicking that there were frustrations and things would come to the surface, adding: “I hold myself completely responsible.”

"I take full responsibility for my actions, all the time for everything I do in life I take full responsibility because it’s me, it’s nobody else," he said. "However, it's things leading up to certain situations that are being viewed.

"There's comments about me being narcissistic, a bully and things like that and that's really not who I am… Everyone that knows me physically can tell you I'm not that person, the painting is developing to be, but I get it, that that’s what’s shown.”

He went on: “Everything I'm doing is with the intention of being able to help – there's never any malice at all. I'm not a controlling person at all – again, anybody who knows me personally knows I don't have one controlling bone in my body.”
