The Apprentice star Navid Sole has revealed he's up for taking part in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after bravely opening up about his mental health battle.

Having overcome social anxiety, navigated the challenges of mental health within his family and battled with the exploration of his sexuality, the 29-year-old TV personality is no stranger to life's trials.

It is these very experiences that have ignited his passion to help others navigate their mental health challenge and the trained pharmacist says landing a role in the iconic jungle will help him spread his message of his new mission to help young people become aware of what services are available at their local pharmacies.

"After appearing on The Apprentice and Celebs Go Dating, I've now come to my serious side of things where I'm focusing on mental health and creating awareness to transform the perception of pharmacist in mental health," Navid told Daily Star.

"However, doing these shows I do still want to be a pharmacist as well because with I feel like these on programmes I can raise more awareness because the platforms provide so much opportunities.

"Even shows like I'm a Celebrity and Strictly, these are amazing programmes to kind of raise the awareness and to do these sort of shows you need to have a strong mindset and I just want to get that message if you put your mind to it you can do anything you want to do."

When he first moved to the UK over 20 years ago, former Celebs Go Dating contestant Navid could only speak Italian and didn't learn to speak English until he was five years old. He said: "It was really difficult coming into the country because I couldn't speak the language. That's when my paranoia and social anxiety kicked in because no one wanted to speak to me.

"As the years went on I was trying to discover my own sexuality and i'm still trying to explore myself at 29. People think 'he's a weirdo' and honestly I had suicidal thoughts at a young age.

"Having undergone crazy thoughts about hurting myself this is why I say Nicki Minaj saved me from potentially killing myself. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be here today. I've created a dedicated a fan page, which she follows, just to show my appreciation and love.

"During the pandemic, I had patients cussing me out calling me a retard and it's all taken it's toll on me and now I'm trying to speak to people and help." Navid is committed to raising awareness about the vital role of pharmacist prescribers in mental health support in his signature relatable manner. His campaign aims to dismantle preconceived notions and transform pharmacists into trusted pillars of support for mental health.

In between 2018 and 2019, a staggering 24% of 17 year olds reported self-harming within the previous year, with seven% admitting to self-harming with suicidal intent. Suicide was the leading cause of death for both males and females aged five to 34 in 2019.

The prevalence of self-harm and suicide attempts among young adults with diagnosable mental health disorders is alarming, particularly affecting young women. Over two-thirds of 18-30-year-olds polled have reported struggling with their mental health in the last two years.

Approximately 96% of people aged between 18-30 suffer from at least one form of mental health issue. Globally, one in seven 10-19-year-olds experiences a mental disorder, contributing significantly to the global burden of disease in this age group.

By introducing pharmacists as accessible and empathetic mental health champions, Navid hopes to bridge the gap between those in need and the support they require.

Prescribing pharmacists offer a range of vital services for mental health patients beyond medication prescriptions. In the community, they play a frontline role in identifying individuals grappling with mental health issues, spotting new symptoms, recognising relapses, and addressing medication concerns.

Surprisingly, while pharmacists are highly trusted, there's still limited awareness of their role in mental health care. Statistics from Chemist+Druggist reveal that nearly 72% of UK patients first visit their doctors for mild mental health symptoms, which could often be managed efficiently at their local community pharmacy. This offers huge potential to ease the burden on the NHS

For emotional support you can call the Samaritans 24-hour helpline on 116 123, emailjo@samaritans.org, visit a Samaritans branch in person or go to the Samaritans website. To learn more about Navid's mission, please contact: rachel@outsideorganisation.com or joe@outsideorganisation.com

For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletter by clicking here
