Chuckle Brother icon Paul Elliott said he looked “dreadful” the one and only time he shaved off his trademark moustache.

The 75-year-old funnyman, whose elder brother Barry – other half of the Chuckle Brothers – died of cancer in 2018, said he would never lose it again.

“I didn’t grow that until I was 23 and I’ve only shaved it once, to raise cash for Marie Curie.

“I looked dreadful. I won’t be doing that again.”

Paul also revealed how he “felt” his brother with him when he performed now. He said: “While it is hard to perform without him, I still think Barry is with me, especially when I’m working.

“I’m a lot funnier now than when I was feeding Barry the lines.

“I feel that he’s inside me, like he is delivering the words; the timing is all his.

“It’s a nice feeling.”

Paul has previously admitted how he would've given up his famed comedy career for a chance to become a professional footballer with beloved team Rotherham United.

He was on course to become a pro as a teen before injury ruined his chances of making it big. Speaking on his career-ending injury on BBC radio, via Facebook, Paul recalled: "I got injured playing for Rotherham boys, the whole leg, it damaged the lymphatic tissues.

"They don't know how I did it and I just couldn't run. I was 14."

He added when asked if he would've given up the fame for a career with the Championship side: "Without a breath of thought, definitely. I just loved the game, I absolutely loved the game."
