In his official death certificate Express.co.uk reports that it states the telly judge had died after prostate cancer spread to his bones. His death was registered the day after what would have been his 79th birthday by his wife, Sue, who was with him when he died.

His agent issued a statement on Monday, April 24, as they confirmed the news of his passing. They wrote: "It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78.

"A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him." Les had faced health battles prior to his passing after being initially diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2009.

He decided to wait for treatment until after he had finished Dancing With The Stars for the season. Years later, Len gave up his job judging Dancing With The Stars months before his death.

At the time he told viewers: "This will be my last season judging Dancing With the Stars. I've been on the show since it started in 2005, and it has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show but I've decided I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain."

He left Strictly in 2016 and made his final appearance on the Christmas Day special. Months later it was confirmed that Shirley Ballas would take over as head judge.

The death of Len sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry as fans paid tribute to the Strictly favourite. As the 2023 series of Strictly kicked off, the BBC dance competition paid tribute to the former judge.

Claudia Winkleman said earlier this month: "In April this year, the undisputed king of ballroom Len Goodman sadly passed away. He was part of Strictly Come Dancing from the very beginning, and he was crucial to the success of the show.

"He meant so much to all of us and we'd like to share some of our favourite memories of Len with you." Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood also paid tribute to the TV judge on the show.
