More info<\/p>\n For years, supernatural hunters have attempted to help lay the ghost to rest.<\/p>\n The Niddrie ghosthunters moved in on the spirit, but the spectre allegedly evaded capture by escaping through the castle’s ruins.<\/p>\n Another ghost hunt was launched, with one man claiming to see \u201ca shadowy being gliding round the ruins,\u201d but the spirit allegedly escaped through an old doorway.<\/p>\n Sources claim the ghost was last seen on a side street leading from Peffermill Road to the castle.<\/p>\n However, it hasn’t been seen since.<\/p>\n The Preston family of Craigmillar, the local\u00a0feudal barons, began building the castle in the late 14th century.<\/p>\n Building continued through the 15th and 16th centuries.<\/p>\n In 1566, Mary Queen of Scots used Craigmillar Castle as a safe haven.\u00a0<\/p>\n Following an illness after the birth of her son, the future\u00a0James VI, Mary arrived at Craigmillar on November 20 1566 to convalesce.<\/p>\n Before leaving on December 7 1566, a pact known as the “Craigmillar Bond” was made, with or without her knowledge, to dispose of her husband\u00a0Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley.<\/p>\n In 1660, the castle was sold to\u00a0Sir John Gilmour, Lord President of the Court of Session, who revived the aging castle.\u00a0<\/p>\n Craigmillar Castle is one of the best-preserved castles in Scotland and is open all year for any ghost hunters out there hoping to spot the spirit with spurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/20\/590x\/secondary\/Craigmillar-Castle-in-the-sun-4970711.jpg?r=1695294011544\")
