EastEnders fans think they have finally worked out the true identity of the Christmas murder victim and predict a past character is set to return.

Theories about who dies on Christmas Day have been running wild since the flash-forward episode aired in February showing a man’s body lying lifeless on the floor, but his identity remains a secret.

As fans of the BBC One soap will know, six of Walford’s most beloved matriarchs are set to be involved in a massive murder mystery in The Queen Vic on Christmas Day 2023.

Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), and Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) are all involved, although the exact details of who the killer is have also been kept under wraps.

Fans have been guessing who the dead man might be, with some convinced it’s one of the big current characters in the show including Ravi Gulati, Keanu Taylor, Theo Hawthorne, and Nish Panesar.

More info

Taking to Reddit, one EastEnders fan has theorised the possibility of Ryan returning this autumn.

They wrote: “I just re-watched the flash forward episode and something that stuck out to me is Stacey mentioning Ryan.

“She talks about how he wants Lily and the baby to go to his for Xmas, how he cut her child maintenance and she wants to kill him. I’m now starting to think it’s him.

“He’s a big enough character (unlike Theo or Keanu), but not a huge villain that’s super predictable (unlike Nish or Ravi). After re-watching it I do kind of understand the theories about it being Dean but I do find it odd he (or Shirley) hasn’t been mentioned since this episode in February. Ryan’s at least been mentioned throughout the year.”

The fan theory sparked a reaction, with one person adding to the Ryan Malloy rumour mill.

They wrote: “I was definitely thinking Ryan back when the storyline kicked off. On top of the things you said it was also mentioned when Ryan was last on-screen that his wife can’t conceive a child but they really want one together.”

As another added: “If it’s Ryan, then I wonder if the baby-obsessed baron wife will appear in the Square for vengeance.”

EastEnders airs on BBC One every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm.
