But Joanne was very strong willed.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, she later learned that the relationship had become sexual after walking in on the young couple in a compromising position.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne called two coworkers to help kick Steven out of the house and warned him to stay away from her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>But he appeared to be unfazed and would reportedly sneak back over to visit when Tylar&#8217;s mom was at work or late at night when she was asleep.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/16\/75391133-12513773-image-a-43_1694620519680.jpg\" height=\"435\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Joanna let Steven rent out a room in the family home (pictured) as she thought the older boy could help her daughter with homework and that she could put the extra income toward the mortgage\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/16\/75388643-12513773-image-m-41_1694619794349.jpg\" height=\"489\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/16\/75388641-12513773-image-a-42_1694619801437.jpg\" height=\"489\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>The single mom later learned that the relationship between Tylar and Steven had become sexual after walking in on the young couple in a compromising position\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/17\/75389237-12513773-image-a-48_1694621326462.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf recounted that deputies carrying out a welfare check &#8216;immediately discovered a female laying partially on a bed. She had been covered with a blanket, there was no movement, but there was a lot of blood&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The pair had also begun dabbling in drugs together including\u00a0marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy, according to reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The situation proved to be too much for Joanne who\u00a0went to the police to report Steven for statutory rape following his sexual relationship with her underage daughter.<\/p>\n<p>She also handed over Tylar&#8217;s diary, which was filled with &#8216;very explicit writings of different sexual positions,&#8217; as proof of the encounters with Steven, according to Prosecutor Lisette Suder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Suder previously told CBS News: &#8216;She wanted [Steven] away from her daughter but they couldn&#8217;t stand the thought of not being together and so that&#8217;s when the plotting began.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Tylar was said to be angry at Joanne and devastated at the thought that her boyfriend may be sent to prison &#8211; which is when the pair decided to take action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The investigation into the sordid relationship was still ongoing when Joanne&#8217;s own parents got a call from her boss to ask about her whereabouts after she failed to show up for work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The call immediately set off alarm bells for the retired couple and Joanne&#8217;s boss revealed he had already called the sheriffs to request a welfare check because it was so out of character for the dedicated employee.<\/p>\n<p>El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf recounted: &#8216;Deputies were able to gain entry on the side of the house. They made their way up the stairs to the master bedroom.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They immediately discovered a female laying partially on a bed. She had been covered with a blanket, there was no movement, but there was a lot of blood.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Joanne<span>\u00a0had been stabbed at least 20 times with what police believed was a\u00a010-inch long chef&#8217;s knife, but the weapon was never recovered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/16\/75391241-12513773-In_2011_as_a_result_of_her_testimony_the_then_16_year_old_was_co-m-46_1694620602545.jpg\" height=\"496\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>In 2011, as a result of her testimony, the then 16-year-old was convicted of second-degree murder and received a reduced sentence of 15 years to life in prison<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/13\/16\/75391243-12513773-Steven_then_21_was_convicted_of_first_degree_murder_and_sentence-m-47_1694620619020.jpg\" height=\"520\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Steven, then 21, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole<\/p>\n<p>Suder, who described the attack as &#8216;very violent,&#8217; revealed: &#8216;It was a very, very, very gruesome scene.
