Coronation Street fans fear for character after hospital ordeal | The Sun

GEMMA Winter grew increasingly concerned for Joseph Brown as he complained about headaches, but he was said to be in the clear.

However, Coronation Street fans are fearing doctors haven't been cautious enough and are terrified for the boy's life.

The mother of five played by Dolly-Rose Campbell is overwhelmed by her brother Paul Foreman's devastating battle with motor neurone disease.

In recent scenes of the ITV soap, the builder was given a heart-breaking prognosis as he has six to twelve months left to live.

Faced with the harsh reality of living with the condition, Gemma is clearly struggling to cope, particularly as her mother faces legal trouble and her finances are far from being in order after she lost her job at the Rovers.

Overwhelmed, Gemma's extreme worry was understandable when her stepson Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) revealed he wasn't feeling well and complained about a headache.

Last week, Gemma kept the young boy home from school, despite her husband Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) firmly believing Joseph was putting on an act for attention.

Gemma's concerns escalated and, in later scenes aired during the week, she took Joseph to hospital.

A first opinion revealed that there was nothing wrong with Joseph and when a second doctor gave the lad the once over, it was confirmed that he was suffering from some sort of cold.

Joseph was allowed to return home while Chesney was given a warning about his wife who was immediately accused of making a mountain out of a molehill.

However, viewers of the Manchester-based drama were on Gemma's side as they suspect Joseph could be thrown in a tragic health storyline of his own, much like his uncle Paul.

TV fans are scared medical professionals may have been too quick to judge Gemma by her appearance and background.

"That’s really not a good attitude from the doctor. There clearly is something wrong with Joseph", one soap fan wrote on X.

"Looks like a new storyline may be beginning with Joseph", a second penned while another added: "Joseph deffo ill hospital will be sorry and lessons will be learned."

Could Joseph be ill?

Or could he be trying to find an escape from eventual school bullies?

Soap boss Iain MacLeod spoke to The Sun during a recent chat about upcoming storylines and teased the return of Linda Hancock, Joseph's maternal grandmother.

"Joseph’s fairy godmother turns up in the shape of Linda", Iain said.

"She decides that she’s going to fix Joseph’s school troubles, and starts throwing money at the situation, which puts Chesney and Gemma in this impossible quandary."
