Fans of Coronation Street have predicted that the villainous Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) will finally be taken down — and that Bethany Platt will be returning to the cobbles to do so.
The 23-year-old, who is the daughter of Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), left Weatherfield in 2020 after her relationship with Daniel Osbourne came to an end, however viewers are convinced that she'll reappear to protect Audrey (Sue Nicholls).
Discussing future storylines on a Coronation Street Reddit thread, one fan predicting that Bethany would uncover Stephen's murderous tendencies with the help of her mother's lover Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths).
"Bethany returns out of concern for Audrey. Damon secretly dates Sarah and acting as a good guy, secretly helps Bethany uncover Stephen’s financial misdeeds regarding Audrey’s property, but Sarah thinks he’s trying to date Bethany and flips out," one fan wrote.
"Stephen gets him comeuppance in the form of a coordinated strategic attack by Jenny, Elaine, Gabrielle, Yasmin, Stu, Paul and Eileen," they added.
Another viewer replied with: "YOU HAVE CRACKED IT! Bethany to return would be such a vibe and would 100 percent expose Stephen, with someone else added that Bethany would "100 percent love to be the one to expose Stephen."
"She'd return and notice that Audrey's finances were weird or a discrepancy in her property paperwork and start digging," another fan mused.. "They'll take him down and he'll be carted off through the whole street where Jenny Connor (Sally-Ann Matthews) would be the last person he saw!"
However, other viewers thought there could be different characters involved in Stephen's downfall, with one writing: "I have thought Paul might be involved in Stephen's exit. With the help/happenstance of Billy and Todd? Also because of their jobs. They have access to flames, holes, etc."
Either way, many fans are convinced that Stephen will be leaving by the end of the year, with one writing that she predicted that Stephen would be leaving in December.
"He's going to have one more murder under his belt, so probably Elaine is also leaving," they added.
Since returning to Weatherfield last year, Stephen has been on a murderous rampage after embezzling money from his ex-wife's company to pay his debts.
While he claimed to be looking after his biological mother Audrey, he was caught trying to sell Audrey's house without her knowledge by Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost), resulting in his murder.
The Underworld manager went on to kill Leo's father Teddy Thompkins (Grant Burgin) and most recently, his business rival Rufus.
Meanwhile, viewers are concerned that Stephen's future stepson Tim will be his next victim after Tim objected to his mother's plans to marry Stephen.
