Makeup can take years off your face – or add them on – depending on how you apply it.
According to The Beauty Blotter (a makeup artist named Kirsten with more than 20 years of experience), there is one makeup product that can work absolute wonders in the right hands.
The expert claimed that the “biggest struggle” for women as they get older is that they apply too much concealer, in a shade that’s too light.
However, the right amount of concealer in a colour-matched shade can be a beauty life-saver, taking years off a woman’s age.
Kirsten said: “Concealer is so tricky to get right, but when you do, it is magical and can take hours of sleepless nights off your face.”

The makeup expert told mature women how they can apply concealer for the most youthful look possible. Tip number one, be sparing.
Kirsten explained: “The key is to use very small amounts and focus them only on the inner corner and the dark area under your eye.”
Applying it incorrectly means running the risk of making your skin look older, accentuating signs of ageing.

She said: “So many women place it all the way under the eye and the outer corner and it can settle in fine lines and enhance wrinkles.”
She revealed that 90 percent of women apply “way too much product”, which “settles into fine lines and enhances them”.
Another mistake older women make is to pick the wrong concealer. Make sure you’re not just using the same shade you’ve used your whole life.
As they get older, women may find that their skin becomes paler, meaning they’ll require different makeup shades.
MedlinePlus explained: “The number of pigment-containing cells (melanocytes) decreases. The remaining melanocytes increase in size. Aging skin looks thinner, paler, and clear (translucent).”
Kirsten told the ladies how to colour match – don’t go too dark or too light. She said: “Your concealer shade should match your skin tone and, contrary to popular belief, it should not be lighter. Lighter concealer will only enhance your dark circle and make them look gray, leading to the dreaded raccoon eyes. Not a flattering look.”
