Strictly Come Dancing winners Stacey Dooley, 33, and her boyfriend Kevin Clifton have been staying together during the lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic. The documentary filmmaker opened up about the Grimsby-born performer’s love of wrestling in a new interview.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live with Scott Mills and Chris Stark, Stacey addressed whether her partner would be taking up a new career wrestling.

The Strictly winner also admitted although Kevin has a love for the sport, she is not “willing to get on board”.

Scott asked: “So he’s into wrestling isn’t he? When we did the Strictly tour that was all he talked about.”

His co-star Chris commented: “He needs to get into wrestling. He’ll have an amazing role like ‘The Dancer’. He could dance around the ring couldn’t he?”

Stacey remarked: “Stop it. This character doesn’t already exist?”

She admitted Kevin has been watching wrestling quite frequently during lockdown.

“He loves wrestling so much,” she explained. “He watches it all the time and he really tries to get me on board and I’m just not willing.

“I’m not a willing participant at all. It’s really not my bag.”

Stacey added: “I appreciate the performance but it’s not for me.”

The Glow Up presenter also joked that Kevin is a “spoil-sport” after she revealed he refuses to dance around the house with her.

The ballroom champion announced his departure from Strictly after seven years on the programme.

Scott asked: “Stacey Dooley really annoys her partner by dancing around the house?”

Stacey replied: “Yes it’s true. He really is a spoil-sport for that. I love dancing around the house but Kevin doesn’t.”

The documentary-filmmaker admitted that Kevin will often “entertain” her for a few seconds.

Scott quizzed: “But he’s a dancer?”

Stacey replied: “This is it. He’ll entertain me. I put Tina Turner or Gloria Estefan playlist.

“I’m like, ‘Come and play with me. Let’s dance.’ He sort of does for about 30 seconds or so. Then that’s it. He’ll go back to listening to a podcast or watching wrestling.”

Scott joked: “He’s not dancing unless there’s money attached?”

She chuckled: “Unless you’re paying me a lot of money I’m not willing to dance with you Stacey.”

Stacey and Kevin began dating months after the couple were crowned Strictly champions in 2018.
